ICLA Test Completion Certification
The Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Assessment (ICLA) measures knowledge and skills needed for research-based literacy instruction. The ICLA is a series of three tests: (1) Structure of Language, (2) Comprehension, and (3) Assessment. Structure of Language is the practicing educator has knowledge, strategies, and beliefs about language structures and literacy instruction that are based on current research and best practices to maximize student reading success.
The Comprehension section shows that the practicing educator understands and applies/promotes research and best practices that maximize student reading success in comprehension. Last, the Assessment section shows that the practicing educator understands and promotes/applies appropriate strategies, multiple assessments, and interventions to maximize student reading success. In the process of becoming a teacher, it is required to pass all three of these sections with passing scores. With receiving my certification, it shows that I have the knowledge of instruction, using different strategies, and assisting with student reading success for my students.

I have showed my knowledge of material for the four different subjects through the elementary grade levels. This test shows that I am able to understand material for the various grade levels that are needed to help drive and adapt my instruction for my students and their abilities and needs.
Animals in Their Habitats Unit: 3rd Grade
- Hands on activities
- Writing
- Research
- Technology
- Collaboration among students
- Pre and Post Assessments
This was a interesting and fun unit to do with my 3rd graders. In the Animal in Their Habit Unit, it covered the various types of habitats, what animals live in those habitats and how they adapt to their habitats. The students worked with a step-by-step process to create a final project that would include a research paper on a specific animal, and a poster that will include details about their animal. Students built the opportunity to create a deeper understanding of animals in their habitat by creating animal habitat flipbooks, researching animals through technology and book resources, and developing a final project on their animal. My students were able to write a multi paragraph paper on their animal using the 6 writing traits and also a poster that was presented to the class. With this unit, I also incorporated students working together and focusing on teamwork. With this unit, I had to research on my own to build my own understanding of the different animals and their habitats so that I could help foster my students' learning with this unit. I wanted to include wide variety of activities to help my students learn all about the different animals and how each habitat shelters different animals. We did flip books, posters, research, cut and paste activities, art activities and others to build the background using multiple strategies to meet all learners diverse needs.
