Standard Nine: Professional Commitment and Responsibility
The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of her/his choices and actions on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
Intern Final Checklist
The Intern Final Checklist was an reflection upon my teaching using the Danielson Framework during my internship in third grade at Lakevue Elementary. My lead teacher, supervisor, and I all took time to go through and fill out this checklist. After we all individually filled it out, we then met together and reflected upon my teaching based upon this checklist. It showed my areas of strength and areas in which I can improve on. Reflecting is an important part of teaching because I am constantly learning to grow as a teacher to improve my teaching. This lays out the foundation of my teaching abilities based upon this model.
Professional Development for Caldwell School District on Math
For one of the professional development days, we discussed the Idaho Core Standards for Math. At this we learned about the EngageNY resources that we could use to help guide us in Math. These books have been a great resource and tool has I have taught math. These modules give you lessons, activities, key words to discuss, assessments and other tools to help. Also, during this professional development, we discusses the SBAC and how to approach it with our students and what it consists of. This gave me a great depth of knowledge and prepared me more for the SBAC and also the Common Core Standards.
Observation Notes
During teaching, I would have Mrs. Batie, my adjunct professor come and watch me teach. As she watched me, she would take notes on things that went well and things that I could work on to help me grow as a teacher. She would write down ideas that might help my lesson in the future be better and then would share these great ideas with me. As we would debrief about how my lesson went, I would reflect with her on how I thought the lesson went, and what I thought could have gone better that I would change for next time. She would share ideas with me that I would then take note on so I could work on them and use them for further lessons. Be able to reflect with Mrs. Batie on my own teaching has helped me grow as a teacher so that I can continue to give my students an excellence education.
