Philosophy of Teaching
I believe that it is a teacher’s job to promote and support the idea that students are life-long learners. Teachers need to encourage that learning happens everywhere, every day, and anytime. Learning doesn’t just deal with the skills of reading, language, and math but also the concepts of respect, responsibility, working with others, confidence in themselves and perseverance. As teachers, we need to be teaching students these skills as well because they will one day be out of the classroom and onto another step in their lives becoming citizens. With students being life-long learners, it is important for teachers to support, care, and challenge their students. Students need to see that their success connects to what they put into their learning. I am going to do my best to encourage, challenge, and be there for my students to praise their success but also to be supportive when they might fail and need extra help so that they don’t give up but persevere.
I believe that students learn best in a safe, caring and supportive environment. Learning is all about developing deeper thinking and along with that will come risks. Students need to know it’s okay to take risks because I don’t care if the work is done wrong, but that they show effort in their learning and are willing to learn. I also want students to know and feel that learning is enjoyable and there is so much for them to learn. I want them to see the passion that I have for teaching them and learning new things so that it sets a fire in them to have the same passion in their own interests but also interests that may be outside of the box. Learning has no limitations.
Educating students is about creating relationships with students. I find it important and will always continue to learn about my students, where they come from, what their interests are, how they learn, and what makes them who they are. I always find myself learning something different about my students. Getting students excited about learning first comes from knowing what their interests are. Once a teacher makes a connection with a student it opens up all doors to learning and helping that student achieve success in and out of the classroom. Taking time to learn about my students is something I will always try to achieve and find it one of the most important aspects of teaching.
A teacher is a guide, a cheerleader, a challenger, a counselor and is always there for her students. Teaching is not a job but a passion to learn from your students, educate those students, and to always help them reach their fullest potential.
